26-year-old, Khalia Shaw from Georgia, went to the doctors in 2014, because she felt depressed. They ordinated an antidepressant medication called Lamictal. - After that, her skin, literally, started to burn form inside and fall off. Shaw recieved scars for life. She has lost her fingernails and sweat glands, and she is slowly going blind.
Khaliah Shaw spent three weeks in a medically induced coma while her skin slowly peeled off and wants to ensure that other patients are protected from pharmaceutical errors, 11Alive.com reports.
Shaw is now suing the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline for promoting Lamictal without advertising its risks in full, Fox News reports.
In July 2012, GlaxoSmithKline pleaded guilty to criminal negligent charges for allegations of fraud and failure to report product safety data for the drug, according to The Palm Beach Post. GlaxoSmithKline paid $3 billion total.
