Dutch politicians, Alexander Pechtold and Wouter Koolmees, holding hands in a manifestation - Twitter


In the Netherlands, men have started to post pictures of themselves in social media when they go hand in hand with another men, with the hashtags #handinhand and #allemannenhandinhan.

It is said to be a national manifestation and a protest against anti-gay violence and homophobia in the country, that is said to have taken place against gay couples over the past weekend.

The protest was sparked after Jasper Vernes-Sewratan and Ronnie Sewratan-Verne appeared in a Dutch television program and reported being attacked by a gang in Arnhem just because they held hands. Other gay couples have testified that they were attacked in including Amsterdam and Eindhoven recently, because of their sexuality.

Politicians, celebrities, footballers and men in general have joined the protest all over the country.
